Better car than many believe
By DHEÂ |Â on Saturday, January 04, 2020
When the first year of the Porsche 996 water cooled engine was introduced many of the so called purists scoffed. The car was Porsche's attempt to move to a new, more cost effective style but not a radical change. Additionally the car shared many features with the lesser priced Boxster. When viewing both from the front it was difficult to see a difference, which lead to more negative comments from the purists. Worse yet came the infamous IMS bearing issue and a class action lawsuit. The bearing's failure rate is somewhere in the 3%-5% range depending on who you believe. The good news is with a replaced bearing (to give one a little peace of mind) the car is excellent. It's fast, nimble and very Porsche like in most if not all categories; engine, handling, transmission (mine's a 6 spd manual) and overall performance. The interior leaves a bit to be desired as there is a fair amount of cost saving plastic components but overall this is a great car. I've owned roughly 20 high end cars in my life and this one is in the top 2 or 3 for all things considered. Buying one today is one of the best bargains to be found, can't imagine the price won't stabilize and begin to increase at some point.… - 5.0

Great Value Sports Car
By jja | on Tuesday, September 22, 2009
I bought a manual '00 C4S Cabrio in mid 2009. Had 59K on the clock, two owners and full service record. Price was great considering the engineering in these cars. Its my daily driver and driving it with the top down is the best way to start the day - and the best way to end it. The ride can be a bit rough on the terrible NY streets - but out on the open road its a dream. It is so well built that it really inspires confidence. Maintenance can be expensive - but so far I've changed the pads and filters myself - so am spending less than I was on the dull Japanese car I used to have. The car is so well designed and engineered that the maintenance tasks were actually much easier than expected. The car looks good despite its age - paint polished up well - and the lines are timeless. I would recommend the 911 to anyone who is a serious driver and serious about cars.…
