Porsche 911 Carrera Featured in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

June 7th, 2023 by

The Porsche 911 is no stranger to the spotlight. This wildly popular, timeless model, for many, has been the face of the brand for nearly a half-century. It’s not only popular as a collector’s car, but the Porsche 911 is just as much of a Hollywood celebrity as some A-list actors.

In the past, we’ve seen the Porsche 911 in movies like Condorman – a pair of them – in a memorable scene that includes a high-speed mountain chase. The 911 is also no stranger to comedy, having been featured as the car of choice for the super-cringe boss, Bill Lundbergh in Office Space. Most recently, the Porsche 911 was driven by the late Paul Walker in Fast 5, won by his character Brian O’Connor in an off-camera race.

This time, Hollywood is calling on the Porsche 911 once more – this time, as one of the stars of the movie, and in an ultra-rare model of the already-classic sports car. So, what is the Transformers Porsche?

What Model Is the Porsche In Transformers?

This rendition of the Porsche 911 on the big screen is none other than the Porsche 911 (964) Carrera RS 3.8. What makes it such a big deal among enthusiasts across the globe? This particular Porsche 911 happens to be one of the rarest ever released, hand-built in the Customer Racing Department at Motorsport headquarters in Weissach, Germany.

Originally, the car was designed solely as the racing counterpart of the Porsche 911 RSR. German automotive manufacturing compliance requires automakers to build at least one version for homologation – with the sole prototype satisfying regulatory compliance for inspection purposes. However, Porsche decided to make a few more – 55, to be exact – but never for wide-scale release.

Of the 55 constructed by hand in Germany, none made it to the United States for distribution. A disappointment for American Porsche enthusiasts, considering the incredible mechanical specs of the car:

  • 3.8L V6 Engine that produced 300-HP. Not so high compared to today’s standards, but for the early 90s, this was an incredible amount of power for such a light vehicle.
  • 5-manual G50/10 transmission with shorter gears, steel synchros, a lighter flywheel, and 40% locking-limited slip differential.
  • 18-inch three-piece magnesium wheels
  • A seam-welded body with reinforced mounting points for the suspension

With a gem like this, it has to be reserved for a true star, right? So, which Transformer gets to assume the identity of this incredible Porsche?

Who Is the Porsche In Transformers: Rise of the Beasts?

The Transformer that doubles as the Porsche 911 in the latest edition of the blockbuster series is none other than an AutoBot known as Mirage. And it seems as if Mirage has a fighting chance at being one of the main characters in the movie. Voiced by the comedian Pete Davidson, aside from Mirage’s skills in battle and (of course) going invisible, he also has quite a sense of humor.

But wait a minute. With a film series centered around dozens of the most popular cars of the modern era – this can’t be the first Porsche in a Transformers movie – right?

Has a Porsche Appeared In Transformers Before?

If you recall seeing a Porsche in one of the prior Transformers movies – you’re 100% correct. The Martini Porsche 935 was featured in the original Transformers movie as the character Jazz, the right-hand AutoBot to Optimus Prime. Unfortunately, Jazz is killed in a tragic scene later on in the film – and we’re guessing he isn’t slated to return in Rise of the Beasts.

Clearly, there’s only room for one Porsche on the big screen – and judging from trailers and fans’ reactions – the Porsche 911 (964) Carrera RS 3.8 is the perfect model for the job.
